Frequently Asked Questions

How up-to-date is the data in your reports?
Our MOT data is updated daily from DVLA. Finance and stolen records are queried in real-time at the point of your check, ensuring the most current information available from HPI, Experian, and police databases.
Will the seller know I've run a history check?
No. History checks are entirely anonymous. The registered keeper and seller have absolutely no way of knowing a check has been performed. This is a completely private transaction between you and MotorElite.
What does "Category S" and "Category N" mean for write-offs?
Cat S means the vehicle sustained structural damage but was repaired and returned to the road. Cat N means non-structural damage (airbags, electricals). Both categories must be declared to insurers. Cat A and B vehicles are crushed and should never appear for sale.
What if the car has outstanding finance — can I still buy it?
Legally, the finance company retains ownership of the vehicle until the debt is cleared. Buying a car with outstanding finance means you could lose the vehicle with no legal recourse. Always ensure the seller settles any finance before completing a purchase.
How accurate is the mileage check?
We compare mileage readings from all MOT tests, service records, and insurance claims. While we cannot guarantee every mileage point is captured, any recorded discrepancy or inconsistency will be clearly flagged in your report.
What is your 30-day money-back guarantee?
Premium plan customers are covered by our data accuracy guarantee. If you purchase a vehicle and subsequently discover an issue that our report should have flagged and didn't, we'll provide a full refund of the report cost and direct you to our complaints escalation team.

History Checks That Saved the Day

★★★★★

"Ran a Premium check on a BMW 5 Series I was about to buy. Came back with £8,400 outstanding finance. Walked away immediately. Best £14.99 I've ever spent — saved me from an absolute nightmare."

JM
James Morrigan
London — Saved from finance fraud
★★★★★

"The seller said the car had 'one careful owner'. MotorElite showed 4 previous keepers and a Cat N write-off that was never mentioned. No wonder they were selling so cheap! Absolute gem of a service."

SR
Sophie Redmond
Manchester — Detected undisclosed write-off
★★★★★

"Noticed the mileage graph showed a suspicious drop between two MOTs. Confronted the seller and they admitted to tampering. Reported to DVLA. MotorElite literally helped me report a criminal."

Tom Ashworth
Leeds — Caught odometer fraud
